What We Do
The Great Bend Housing Authority (GBHA) provides affordable housing through two different programs. The first program is a Section 8 low-income housing program providing affordable housing at the High Rise, located at 1101 Kansas Avenue in downtown Great Bend. The second program is a housing assistance program for low-income individuals to apply for Section 8 assistance for privately owned housing with other landlords in the Great Bend community. Both programs are funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
50 Years of Affordable Housing
Fifty years ago in 1971, construction began to build the High Rise in downtown Great Bend. And now in 2023, renovations are beginning to bring this famous building on the Great Bend skyline up-to-date! Every unit of the 12-story high rise apartment building will be undergoing extensive renovations. New cabinetry, flooring, and fixtures will improve the aesthetics and safety of the 1 and 2 bedroom apartment units, which are available for qualified low-income applicants.
